Greenmarket Collections Reach 1,000,000 lbs!

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Congratulations to GrowNYC, our partner in greenmarket collections, for the accomplishment of diverting 1 Million lbs of textiles from landfills.  GrowNYC has been  a great partner in so many ways that it is hard to say enough about how we feel about this organization. They have helped us as a company and also as individuals raising the bar in how we interact with our local community. We tip our caps to you GrowNYC.   Here’s to 1 million more!

From their recent news release:
“Given the enormous volume of textiles that residents dispose of each year in NYC, GrowNYC wanted to provide a convenient alternative. What began as a pilot in Union Square has grown to be a permanent offering at eight of our Greenmarkets,” said GrowNYC Executive Director Marcel Van Ooyen. “And, New Yorkers have responded overwhelmingly, as over 51,000 New Yorkers have contributed to the million pounds of textiles that have been diverted from disposal as of March 31, 2011. That’s enough to fill 24 subway cars!”

Wearable Collections Profile on Anderson Cooper 360° on Sept. 1 2010

Friday, August 27th, 2010

We can barely contain our excitement with the news that Wearable Collections will be among the legions of wonderful organizations profiled on the Anderson Cooper 360° show. The taping was completed a couple of months ago and according to our sources will be aired on Sept 1st , either at the 10pm slot or 11pm.  The AC 360° team conducted an interview at the Wearable offices, and followed us around to get a first hand look at Wearable’s operations.  We really enjoyed our time with them, and though we didn’t get to meet Anderson Cooper himself, anytime he would like to be a guest collector at the greenmarkets, he is very welcome.

Textile Recycling on Sundance Channel

Friday, May 8th, 2009

This is our good friend David Hurd of the CENYC speaking about the greenmarket textile recycling programs. If you watch closely you will see another of our favorite people, Wearable’s own Michael S.  We especially like the view of Michael from inside the bin. Extremely artistic, and quite the action shot.

Wearable is “doable” according to the NY Times

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

It was a small mention in yesterday’s New York Times    environment section, but we’ll take it. In an article discussing obstacles that co-op boards have installing green initiatives, Wearable Collections service was stated as “doable”. We couldn’t agree more.

Wearable Collections and Stonehenge Management team up

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Wearable Collections wants to thank Stonehenge Management for featuring us in their Autumn 2008 mailer to their residents Going Green.  We are very appreciative that they were the first management company to give Wearable’s their stamp of approval. We are currently in 6 of the Stonehenge buildings and are planning an expansion in the new year to several other buildings.

This video was captured for Voice of America News over the summer. We appreciated the time they spent with us and think they did a nice job of depicting our business.  We can’t blame them for not making us look prettier.
